A season to experiment – new bottles to test out on your shelf this summer

Some say Summer is the season to try something new. We say – with al fresco dining, barbecue season, and garden parties galore – it’s a great time for the off-trade to try some new tipples on the shelf. So, if you’re willing to experiment, here’s some ideas of what to try out in your in-store booze range.

We can’t wax lyrical enough about the popularity of spritzes. But this is an area where drinkers really are experimenting. Switching out your aperitivo of choice for another liqueur gives you so much room to try new bottles – and upsell the required prosecco and soda as a convenient cocktail bundle. Hot to trot in 2024 is the Hugo Spritz (made with a floral Elderflower Liqueur) or the Limoncello Spritz (made with the refreshing Limoncello DI CAPRI).

At the other end of the spectrum, we have the humble spirit and mixer. And there’s not a more drinkable combo than a simple rum and coke. Rum is a category which sees plenty of people level up to a more premium variety – so try stocking a darker, aged spirit with a bit of Caribbean provenance. Our top pick is Bounty – fresh from the tropical isle of Saint Lucia.

Another good place to try something new this season is with RTDs. Choose a few premixed cocktail options as well as some simpler mixers, keep them chilled for ultimate convenience, and you’ve got yourself the perfect little impulse buy for those hot, thirsty days.
