Barefoot rolls out California Zinfandel

The USA wine brand, Barefoot, will be rolling out its Barefoot California Zinfandel to wholesalers nationwide this August, following a successful launch in Sainsbury’s stores earlier this year.

Barefoot Zinfandel is the latest addition to the brand’s award-winning UK portfolio, showcasing California’s most iconic varietal through Barefoot’s easy-drinking, distinctive, fruity wine style.


Not to be confused with White Zinfandel, Barefoot Zinfandel is a rich and smooth, full-bodied red wine with vibrant notes of black cherry and juicy raspberry.

The fourth most planted grape variety in California, Zinfandel offers a bold, layered profile which has driven USA Zinfandel sales in the UK up by 7.6 per cent, 10 times faster than the red wine segment. It currently boasts 69 per cent revenue share of the Zinfandel segment in the UK. Thanks to Zinfandel’s high tolerance to heat, the grape is particularly adapted to the increasingly warm summers, giving it a promising future.

“Barefoot is all about creating approachable, flavourful wines that are filing for any occasion,” said Mark Stammers, Senior Sales Director EMEA at Gallo. “As the UK’s #3 wine brand, Barefoot is instantly recognizable on shelf. We hope that this, coupled with the growing popularity of Zinfandel in the UK, paves the way for us to introduce new drinkers to Zinfandel and grow the varietal.”

Barefoot Zinfandel has an ABV of 14.5 per cent. It is available from retailers nationwide with an RRP of £8.
