Bird's Bakery bringing back family favourites for Doughnut Week

Family-run Birds Bakery is bringing back two popular flavours in honour of their own National Doughnut Week following the cancellation of the event due to coronavirus.

From 12th to 19th September, the bakery chain will sell two specials across their 60 stores - a strawberry and a lemon and lime doughnut.

The exclusive treats will be available in boxes of four along with two caramel doughnuts and can also be purchased separately.

A donation of 20p per doughnut sold w will be donated towards The Children’s Trust, the UK’s leading charity for kids with brain injury.

National Doughnut Week is usually held annually in May – last year Birds Bakery raised £9,000 after selling around 45,000 doughnuts.

Lesley Bird, chief operating officer at Birds Bakery, said: “As a family company that operates in the hearts of communities across the East Midlands, it's important to us to contribute to local and national charities in any way we can.

“We have supported The Children’s Trust for a number of years, and we’re pleased to be hosting our very own doughnut week to raise further funds for the organisation.

“We’re bringing back two of our much-loved doughnuts and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the charity, so we encourage everyone to get involved.”

Harrison Galliven, community fundraising executive at The Children’s Trust, said: “We’re extremely grateful for Birds’ continued support.

"To keep our vital services running, we need to raise £7 million a year and the covid-19 crisis has hit our fundraising hard.

“The money raised from Doughnut Week will help us to support more children and families across the UK, affected by brain injury.”

Birds Bakery is also offering a home delivery service within a 15-mile radius of its Derby store."

The service features a variety of products, which are available to purchase online and orders must be placed by noon with 48 hours' notice.
