Central England Co-op seems to be embracing Christmas spirits a bit early this year as it has announced the roll-out of its festive snack mince pies unusually early, reports stated on Monday (13).

The retailer brought forward the date of selling mince pies in its stores following a constant slew of customer enquiries about it- both in-store and on social media.

Central England Co-op usually begins stocking mince pies at the end of September.

Natalie Smith, store manager at Central England Co-op, said that for months now “our colleagues have been inundated with requests for when our Christmas products will be on sale, especially mince pies”.

“While we know that hearing about anything festive related this early is not for everyone, for some they cannot wait so we have decided to give people what they wanted and put them on sale early,” Smith said.

“I have no doubt that mince pies and anything else Christmas related will fly off the shelves now that it is available, especially during these uncertain times when people need and deserve a boost.”

The news follows John Lewis opening its Christmas shop early after online festive searches reached a record high in August.

Debate heats up as community group calls to boycott self-checkouts

While a community group recently criticised self-service checkouts, saying automation lacks the "feel good factor", retailers maintain that rise in the trend is a response to changing consumer behaviour and the need of the hour.

Taking aim at self-checkouts in stores, Bridgwater Senior Citizens' Forum recently stated that such automation is replacing workers and damaging customer service.
