Coronavirus outbreak confirmed at Scottish cake supplier Lightbody

Five employees at cake manufacturer Lightbody have tested positive for coronavirus.

Known as the UK's largest celebration cake supplier, the company is based in Hamilton, Scotland employing over 1,100 people.

Lightbody's management also confirmed a "number" of employees are now self-isolating and contact tracing is now underway to identify those to have tested positive for the virus.

The company is known for supplying own-label cakes to big retail brands such as Disney, Thorntons Universal and Weight Watchers.

A spokesman said: "Lightbody can confirm that five employees have tested positive for COVID-19 whilst off shift.

"A comprehensive track and trace has been implemented and, as a precaution, a number of employees have been isolated for the government guided 14 day period.

"No members of staff are being told to come back to work before their own isolation period finishes.

“We would like to reassure all of our employees that we are taking this very seriously and that their health and safety is our top priority.

"We have taken all necessary precautionary measures, guided by government advice, on how to respond and continue to maintain our high standards of hygiene, PPE use and social distancing best practice.”
