Country Life celebrates 50th birthday with consumer giveaway

Saputo Dairy UK has announced a consumer giveaway to celebrate the 50th birthday of Country Life, its leading butter brand.

The Facebook campaign is set to go live on 14 September, offering shoppers the chance to win one of five luxury picnic hampers, each worth £160. The hampers include a selection of premium branded groceries, alongside Country Life butter.

The contest creative will also see the return of the original Country Life Buttermen, who first featured in Country Life TV ads in the early 1980s.

Launched in 1970, the Country Life brand remains today a much loved household staple. For 50 years the product has been made with the finest quality milk, sourced exclusively from British dairy farms, and Red Tractor assured.

It is the only butter brand to bear a Royal Warrant, in recognition of its supply to the Queen.

Emilie Grundy, butters and spreads marketing controller at Saputo Dairy UK commented: “Turning 50 years old is a real milestone birthday for the Country Life brand, of which we are justly proud! As the UK’s No 1 British-born butter brand, we remain to this day true to our British countryside heritage, which sits at the heart of our brand identity and consumer positioning.”

“Our ‘Britishness’ has been articulated through a number of memorable advertising campaigns across our five decade history, many of which live on in the hearts and minds of our Country Life consumers.

“In celebration of our special day we therefore felt it fitting to go back to our early beginnings and bring back the Country Life Buttermen to help announce our birthday competition on Facebook. We hope the memory, together with our indulgent hamper give-away, will spread a little moment of joy for our fans as we look forward to the next decade of the Country Life brand story.”

The giveaway will be live until 24 September.

Gnaw ‘new-stalgia’: pud-themed Chocolate Spoons and flavoured choc bars

Tapping into “new-stalgia” (an anticipated hot food trend in 2025), Gnaw has been working tirelessly to rethink Great British puddings by creating a number of “Hug in a Mug” classics (Crème Brulée, Bakewell Tart, Sticky Toffee Pud) in conjunction with an impressive “pudfolio” of dessert-flavoured bars: New York Cheesecake, Christmas Pudding, Banoffee Pie and Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Desserts may prove divisive. For many the last course will always be a fitting finale to a great meal spent with friends of family, enticing comfort food that offers a nostalgic peek into happy custard drenched, ice cream topped memories from yesteryear. For others, desserts are an unwitting dalliance with guilt-filled soft sponges, buttery pastry, seductively sweet fillings, crumbly toppings, sticky sauces …
