A new grocery and convenience store is gearing up to open in Reading at the site of a bank that has been vacant for years.

Signage for the convenience store ‘Cravings Land’ has appeared at a building at the junction of Basingstoke Road and Buckland Road in Whitley.

Workers have been conducting preparations for weeks.

A worker preparing the unit said the project is due to be completed soon.

Once ready, Cravings Land will be open from 9am to 10pm each day.

The ground floor of the building has been unoccupied for years.

Around 10 years ago, it was used by Barclays Bank. The last Streetview showing the building operating as a bank comes from July 2014.

Since then, the ground floor has been vacant.

Back in 2017, developers SEP Properties won permission to replace the roof of the building with an extension to create four one-bed flats.

Streetview imagery shows this work was completed by October 2020.

The first floor was previously occupied by the EU Link nursing and care home agency.
