Cypressa: 60 sunshine years of Mediterranean cuisine

Cypressa: 60 sunshine years of Mediterranean cuisine

2024 marks the 60th anniversary for Mediterranean food business, Cypressa, as it celebrates six decades as a brand synonymous with authentically sourced foods from the Mediterranean and beyond.

Cypressa has been celebrating and championing quality Mediterranean foods since 1964, perfectly capturing these warm and vibrant flavours in its extensive "Foods of the Sun" range.

The origins of the brand started in Cyprus in 1951 when the three Katsouris brothers started selling locally-sourced foods at the markets, where they quickly earned a reputation for quality produce. After moving to the UK, the brothers created Cypressa, importing vibrant produce from the same specialist producers and bringing them to UK consumers at a time when many of its products were still largely unknown and certainly under-utilised.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating 60 years in business," said Harry Constantinou, Commercial Controller at Cypressa. "Through three generations of the family’s dedication, we continue to grow and evolve, always with the same ethos of nurturing relationships with trusted specialist producers to bring our ‘Foods of the Sun’ to the UK market,”

“When the brand launched in 1964 the landscape and demand for Mediterranean foods were far more specialised, so Cypressa has always committed to educating consumers and inspiring them to try new flavours,” added Harry.

Cypressa’s range champions quality foods from the Katsouris family homeland with Mediterranean specialities such as olives, antipasti, olive oil, tahini and halloumi. Cypressa has seen rapid growth in recent years, expanding its product range to include authentic Mediterranean tapenades and pastes.

The brand has become a pioneer in establishing and growing the Mediterranean category in UK retail.

“To celebrate 60 years of Cypressa, there will be a marketing campaign that spans social media, radio, print, in-store activations and outdoor advertising across London and surrounding areas. We have a strong foothold here, having built great relationships with ethnic stores and markets that have supported us since the beginning. We are proud to have come so far over six decades and to be part of such a thriving foodie community in the UK” said Harry.
