Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to a robbery in which a man threatened a shopkeeper with a knife.

The incident happened at around 9.40pm on Thursday at the Krish shop, near the junction of Burnside Road and Geneva Road, in Darlington.

After threatening the shopkeeper with a knife, the suspect stole several bottles of alcohol from behind the counter and ran off towards Geneva Road.

The victim was left with lacerations to his hand and head as a result of the incident.
