Driver in car crash outside Paignton Texcao has lucky escape

Firefighters who attended to a car crash outside a 24-hour Texaco forecourt said the driver had a lucky escape after the vehicle was left completely destroyed.

Paignton Fire Station's Blue Watch were called to incident on Torquay Road, Paignton, at 12:45am on Tuesday, 14th July 14.


The Devon-based Texaco forecourt is a popular meet up place at night for young drivers within the area.

No injures was reported, fire crews kept the road closed for an hour while they cleared the scene including a small fence outside a house that was destroyed from the crash.

The car, reported to be an old-style Jaguar, was pictured showing the front half completed ripped off from the incident, with parts of the vehicle left in the road.

An image highlighting the damage was posted onto Paignton Fire Station's Blue Watch’s Facebook page, saying: "Blue Watch attended another RTC last night. Please remember that seat belts save lives!!"

Consumers cheer up as Budget nerves lift: GfK

British consumers have turned less pessimistic following the government's first budget and the US presidential election and they are showing more appetite for spending in the run-up to Christmas, according to a new survey.

The GfK Consumer Confidence Index, the longest-running measure of British consumer sentiment, rose to -18 in November, its highest since August and up from -21 in October which was its lowest since March.

Retail sales take bigger-than-expected hit in October

British retail sales fell by much more than expected in October, according to official data that added to other signs of a loss of momentum in the economy in the run-up to the first budget of prime minister Keir Starmer's new government.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said sales volumes have fallen by 0.7 per cent in October. A Reuters poll of economists had forecast a monthly fall of 0.3 per cent in sales volumes from September.
