East of England Co-op announces plan for new store in Ipswich

The East of England Co-op has announced plans to open a brand new food store on Woodbridge Road, Ipswich.

Subject to planning permission, this new store (former Renault dealership at 345 Woodbridge Road) will replace the current East of England Co-op Food store on Brunswick Road, with all colleagues to relocate. The current store is owned by the East of England Co-op, who will be exploring opportunities for the site.

The new Woodbridge Road store will be a larger, more modern store and will host a wider range of products and services, as well as providing on-site parking. The store will also feature more environmentally friendly refrigeration and solar panels, plus electric vehicle charging points, reflecting the East of England Co-op's commitment to being environmentally conscious.

Doug Field OBE, Chief Executive Officer for the East of England Co-op said: “We’re excited to announce plans to open a new store on Woodbridge Road, Ipswich. This new location allows us to provide an even better shopping experience for our customers, with a larger, more modern space and the convenience of on-site parking, whilst relocating all our fantastic colleagues from our nearby Brunswick Road store.

“We’re confident that this new facility will offer enhanced services and a fresh environment for the community to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming all our customers to the new store.”

This will be the fifth new Food store the East of England Co-op has announced this year, as part of ambitious plans to reshape their retail portfolio. Woodbridge Road will follow the opening of Bishop’s Stortford, the retailer’s first store in Hertfordshire and joins the list of upcoming stores including Ipswich Station, Kingsfleet in Thetford, and another relocation in East Bergholt. This is alongside a refurbishment programme of current stores worth £5 million.

The new Woodbridge Road store is due to open in Spring 2025.

The East of England Co-op is the largest independent retailer in East Anglia with Food stores, Travel branches and local Funeral Service branches across Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.
