Fed reminds retailers to stock up for FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup Round of 16 games

Independent retailers' body Fed has advised members to stock up ahead of the FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup Round of 16 games, saying a recent market report claims that retail is expected to see a £61.2 million sales boost.

As reported earlier too, in the Women’s World Cup 2023 Spending Report by VoucherCodes.co.uk, Fed members should stock up on food and drink, decorations, and merch to support the Lionesses.


"Fed members should contact their wholesalers to ensure plenty of stock ahead of the first Round of 16 matches, kicking off Saturday, August 5. Advertise your stock on social media and encourage your customers to support the Lionesses at home," stated Fed on Wednesday (2).

Forecasts from the UK’s savings site suggest that from 6.6m UK supporters, 80 per cent will tune into the first knockout round from home. As the tournament is being held in Australia and New Zealand, fans in the UK are presented with plenty of early starts. As a result, retail spend is set to far outweigh spending in hospitality venues. Throughout the Round of 16, retailers can expect to see 4.1m shoppers through their doors, generating £61.2m in predicted sales.

Spending on food and drink for the celebrations are expected to make up £333m of total sales, with every viewer watching at least one game from the comfort of their own home.

Retailers are also set to make £57.6m on sportswear, £32.6m on TV electrical goods, and £21.7m on souvenirs as consumers prepare to watch the games.

Retail spend is set to peak during the group stage of the tournament (20 July – 3 August), with consumers expected to spend £133.7m, stated the Women’s World Cup 2023 Spending Report by VoucherCodes.co.uk.

£3.3m on merchandise, and £2.8m on decorations as consumers prepare to watch the first set of knockout games.

Following in the footsteps of the group stage, retail spending on food and drink is predicted to reach £41.4m, as fans look to stock their fridges ahead of the next stage of the competition. The VoucherCodes.co.uk Spending Report also revealed fans will spend £3.3m on merchandise, and £2.8m on decorations.

Overall, during the entire tournament, an estimated £333m will be spent on food and drink shops throughout the competition as many viewers will be opting to watch the games from home instead of heading out to pubs, bars, and restaurants, stated the report.
