Feel Good Drinks wears Climate Positive badge of honour

Feel Good Drinks, a Nichols PLC incubator brand, said it has become climate positive for 2020, becoming the first drink in the UK to achieve the feat.

Currently emitting 0.11kg CO2e on average per can produced, the brand aims to be climate net zero by 2030 across its Scopes 1, 2 and 3, which respectively covers direct emissions from owned or controlled sources; indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating and cooling consumed by the reporting company; and all other indirect emissions that occur in a company's value chain.

Feel Good Drinks has worked alongside Planet Mark for scopes 1 and 2 and has achieved the Planet Mark 2021 Business certification, an internationally recognised sustainability certification for businesses acknowledging continuous progress, encouraging action and building an empowered community of like-minded individuals.

In addition the Feel Good team onboarded sustainability specialist Marina Bradford from Bemari Consulting to execute scope 3.

“We’re proud to have achieved our climate positive status through our work with Planet Mark,” commented Ed Woolner, Feel Good general manager. “Although carbon is not the only challenge, it is a very important place to start.”

The brand also has a ‘3% for People and Planet Fund’ - whereby Feel Good drinks will give three per cent of sales to initiatives that support the wellbeing of the communities local to our value chain and planetary wellbeing.

“The Feel Good 3% People & Planet fund is our way of giving back, but by partnering with organisations that support personal and planetary wellbeing we hope to not only help protect the natural environment that gives us so much but also educate consumers as to how we can mitigate the issue and protect our planet whilst also feeling good,” Woolner added.

Feel Good’s sustainable purpose-led range of 100% natural flavoured sparkling waters have been created using no artificial flavours, added sugar or sweeteners and contain 15% real fruit juice.

Available in three variants, Peach & Passionfruit, Rhubarb & Apple, Raspberry & Hibiscus, the range contains less than 27 calories per 330ml can and is stocked at Bidfood and Brakes.

Retailers express concern over Welsh government’s decision to press on with its own DRS

A single UK-wide scheme deposit return scheme (DRS) would be far more successful, efficient and effective, retailer body the Federation of Independent Retailers (the Fed) has stated, expressing surprise and some concerns over Welsh government’s decision to press ahead with its own deposit return scheme for bottles and cans and not to join a UK-wide DRS.

The Fed’s National President Mo Razzaq has further warned that this decision by Wales - coupled with its intention to include glass in its scheme - would cause unnecessary confusion. He commented: “While we applaud Wales’s desire to make its deposit return scheme a success, we would prefer to see one single scheme for the UK.
