Ferrero recalls European labelled Kinder products imported to UK

Ferrero recalls European labelled Kinder products imported to UK

Ferrero has extended its precautionary recall of a selection of European labelled Kinder products that are imported into the UK.

The products were manufactured at the Arlon factory in Belgium that has been closed last month after chocolate products made at the plant were found to contain salmonella.

Investigations have found that some products, intended for the European market only and which have already been recalled by Ferrero in Europe, have been imported into the UK by importers not linked to Ferrero.

The Food Standards Agency has clarified that the earlier recall for certain Kinder chocolate products in the UK also remains valid.

The agency advised consumers not to eat the affected products, but to take them back to the store where they purchased the products and request a refund.

As of 8 April, nine countries in Europe, including the UK, had reported 119 confirmed and 31 probable salmonella cases, linking them to the Arlon factory.

Belgium’s food safety authority, AFSCA, had then ordered the recall of the factory’s entire production of the company’s popular Kinder brand and asked Ferrero to suspend production at the site.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause symptoms including diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps in humans, and is one of the most common food-borne infections.

Business rate bill to surge by 'over 140 per cent'

Businesses are facing a sharp rise of "140 per cent" in property costs due to the government's decision to cut relief for the retail, hospitality and leisure sector from 75 per cent to 40 per cent, property consultancy Colliers has warned.

The government’s decision to reduce business rates relief from 75 per cent to 40 per cent will see thousands of shops, restaurants, pubs, gyms, and nightclubs grappling with bills surging by over 140 per cent from the beginning of April.
