Festive season sees surge in pork pie demand

Addo Food Group said it has increased production by 40-50 per cent to meet consumer demand for pork pies.

The leading savoury pastry manufacturer, which has an extensive portfolio of products sold by major UK supermarkets and retailers, is expected to distribute up to 30 million pork pies in the weeks running up to Christmas.

“We gear up for the Christmas orders months in advance to make sure that we produce plenty of pork pies. Despite being a challenging year for many, we are still experiencing very high demand for one of the nation’s favourite buffet staples,” said Deborah Bolton, chief executive of Addo Food Group.

Famous for its traditional and Melton Mowbray pies, a staple on Christmas buffet tables, the group will be working around-the-clock to meet the demand as production ramps up in December.

“December is the busiest time of the year at our Tottle bakery and everyone has been working hard to deliver pies across the country, in time for Christmas,” Bolton added.

“With Christmas set to be different for everyone, we’re delighted that families across the nation will still be able to celebrate over one of our pork pies.”

The group also manufactures products under the Wall’s Pastry and Pork Farms brands.
