GripHero hand dispensers installed at 70% of UK forecourts

Grip Hero has confirmed that 70% of the UK’s motorway service stations are equipped with their ATEX-Certified anti-static hand-protection dispensers ahead of ready to the August Bank holiday.

The announcement follows a major effort by UK’s Motorway Service Area operators to install the dispensers across the entire motorway network.

Every motorway on mainland Britain is now equipped with a GripHero service station, providing the world’s only static-safe protection to drivers from chemical and biological contamination and potentially Covid-19.

Commenting on the business move, Oli Yeo, inventor and managing director of GripHero, said: “Protecting the health and wellbeing of drivers across the UK motorway network is a dream come true. When we started out, our vision was to change the face of forecourts for the better, and here we are today doing exactly that at the same time as dramatically reducing the environmental impact of hand-protection used on forecourts and service stations.

“We’re helping forecourt owners to protect drivers, and we’re helping to boost sales of goods as drivers with clean hands have been shown to be 76% more likely to make impromptu purchases of snacks and drinks, if they can easily keep their hands clean while filling up.”

The roll-out includes Moto’s network of Motorway Service Areas and a mix of fuel pump, pillar and n-the-nozzle mounted dispensers, which can all be used in the refuelling zone.

Drivers across the UK’s motorway network can now easily find hand-protection and,

Using GripHero’s smart release system, drivers can obtain hand sanitizer without coming into contact with surfaces touched by other motorists.

Among the many motorway service stations ready to greet drivers with GripHero this August, is the multi-award-winning Gloucester Services, run by Westmorland Ltd.

Andy Smith, group fuels manager for Westmorland Ltd, who has had the dispensers installed ahead of the weekend, said: “It is more important than ever before to protect our customers in the best way we possibly can.

“By offering GripHero, Westmorland Ltd is playing its part in the battle against coronavirus, and is dramatically reducing wastage that other glove dispensers produce. We’re also eliminating the static-risks for our customers in the fuelling zone.”

Since the start of the pandemic, GripHero has prevented over 300 tonnes of plastic from entering the waste stream, both as a result of its non-waste manufacturing process and single item dispensing solution.

Things to know about new Simpler Recycling reforms

Although the UK's overall recycling rate has seen a significant rise, reaching 44 per cent in 2015 compared to just 17 per cent in 2008, progress has plateaued in recent years, with indications that the rate may now be declining.

Safer alternatives to cigarettes could save millions of lives and billions of pounds, says think tank

Promoting safer alternatives to cigarettes could save 19 million years of life by 2030 and reduce smoking-related costs to taxpayers by up to £12.6 billion annually, a new report from the Adam Smith Institute (ASI) has revealed.

The think tank argues that the UK government's current approach to achieving a Smoke Free 2030 - defined as reducing smoking rates to 5 per cent or lower - is both illiberal and unworkable and will significantly set back progress against smoking related harm. The ASI warns that policies such as a generational tobacco ban, a new tax on vapes, and restrictions on heated tobacco products and flavours will hinder harm reduction efforts.
