Hancocks to hold final Sweetest Day event across all depots

Following much success at previous store events, the UK’s leading confectionery wholesaler Hancocks is inviting customers to their final Sweetest Day event of the year.

On 3 October all of Hancocks’ 14 depots across the country will be inviting customers to join them to enjoy some of the best deals and offers on popular lines.

The event, lasting from 8am to 8pm, is designed to celebrate retailers, introduce them to some of the newest product launches and offer their favourite product lines and cut prices.

For one day only, customers can enjoy over 150 unmissable deals across a range of favourite brands, including Haribo, Toxic Waste, Warheads, Swizzels and Cadbury.

Retailers looking to expand their pick and mix range can buy 10+ bags and save 40p per bag, or buy 20+ bags and save £1 per bag on Kingsway pick and mix - with lots of top selling lines available.

Those who spend £150 or more will receive £31 of free stock.

There is a chance to win a Sneak Energy bundle, containing branded hoodies, bottles and more, when retailers buy any four cases of products.

In selected stores, retailers will also have the opportunity to meet representatives from top brands like Mondolez, Perfetti, Haribo and Huel.

The wholesaler will also host lots of giveaways and prizes on the day. Product samples will also be on offer for those looking to stock up on new must-haves.

Kathryn Hague, Head of Marketing at Hancocks said: “Our Sweetest Day events have been a huge success with our customers. We love welcoming everyone into our stores and letting them make the most of some of our exclusive offers and deals.

“This October will be our final Sweetest Day event of the year, so we are urging customers to get into their local depot and enjoy all of the in-store exclusive offers before they are gone!

“Getting the chance to meet brand representatives is also so valuable for retailers. They can learn all about up and coming product launches, try some of the latest samples and receive merchandising and sales advice from brand experts.

“The deals are truly too good to be missed, across a range of pick and mix, novelty and impulse must-haves.”

'Walkable high streets boost economy'

Shoppers who walk and wheel spend more than those arriving by car, states a recent report, demonstrating the significant economic and social benefits of investing in walkable town centres, challenging traditional views on urban accessibility.

The findings published in third edition of "The Pedestrian Pound Report", recently published by Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking, come at a critical juncture for British high streets, with a record number of retail failures in 2022 and a vacancy rate of nearly one in seven by the end of 2023.

Andrew Bailey acknowledges retailers' warning on job cuts

Retailers are right to warn of potential job cuts as a result of tax increases announced at last month’s budget, Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey has said.

Bailey appeared before the cross-party Treasury select committee on Tuesday (19), after almost 80 retailers claimed rising costs would make “job losses inevitable, and higher prices a certainty”.

High Street Rental Auctions: Independent retailers urged to engage with local councils

The British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) has urged independent shop owners to reach out to their local councils about the government's newly announced High Street Rental Auction (HSRA) powers, which aim to tackle persistently vacant commercial properties on UK high streets.

Introduced through the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023, the HSRA legislation will come into force on 2 December. It will give local authorities the ability to put the leases of long-term empty shops up for public auction, allowing businesses and community groups to secure short-term tenancies.
