Heinz and Tesco bury price hatchet - ketchup back on shelves

Heinz and Tesco have reached an agreement to end their dispute over price rises, meaning the FMCG giant’s products will be restocked on the supermarket’s shelves over the coming days.

The supply of Heinz products to Tesco was paused last month, with a Tesco spokesperson stating at the time that the supermarket “will not pass on unjustifiable price increases to our customers”, as household budgets come under “increasing pressure” from inflation.

Tesco has declined to reveal whether Heinz products will increase in price under the new agreement.

Last week Mars Petcare also halted supply of brands including Whiskas, Pedigree and Dreamies to the supermarket. This dispute has yet to be resolved, the BBC reported.

“We’re sorry that this means some products aren’t available right now, but we have plenty of alternatives to choose from and we hope to have this issue resolved soon,” Tesco said.

Meanwhile, a Mars spokesperson reassured pet owners that the company’s products are still “widely available” across the UK.

One-third of British vapers willing to buy dangerous ‘illegal vapes’

Illegal vapes are on the rise in the UK, with Trading Standards announcing a 59 per cent increase in seizures between 2023 and 2024. This resulted in 1.2 million unregulated vapes being taken off the streets, but this figure could be just the tip of the iceberg. The disposable vapes ban set to come into force on 1 June this year is predicted to cause a surge in demand for black market vapes.

Researchers from alternative nicotine product retailer Haypp set out to identify how many UK vape users may be willing to buy vapes on the black market. A survey of over 500 vape users across the UK found that almost a third (32 per cent) admitted they would be willing to purchase an illegal vape.
