Ice Snapper sees best summer ever with sales soaring amid record temperatures

Ice Snapper sees best summer ever with sales soaring amid record temperatures

The UK’s record breaking summer temperatures have led to soaring sales for Ice Snapper, the freezer snack that’s been named as Britain’s best-selling summer treat in a recent PayPoint report.

With Brits reaching for the product to keep them cool over the hot summer months, sales of the 39p treat is expected to top seven million units this year.

The makers of Ice Snapper, Bobby’s Foods, said they have had their best summer ever with sales up 2m compared to a typical year.

The product is sold exclusively through corner shops and convenience stores - where it outsells every other ice lolly or branded ice cream product. A recent analysis of sales data by payments company PayPoint has named the Ice Snapper as the UK’s top selling heatwave treat, overtaking major brands Walls and Nestle.

PayPoint looked at sales across 28,000 convenience stores throughout the UK, finding a 242 per cent increase in ice cream and ice lolly sales overall, with Ice Snappers the top freezer pick.

The British product was the number one of a top ten made up entirely of treats from Walls and Nestle.

“This summer’s prolonged hot weather has meant many of us have been heading to the freezer for a cool down snack,” Dave Suckling, Bobby’s managing director, said.

“We are delighted that Bobby’s Ice Snapper has been named as the UK’s top selling freezer pick ahead of well known products from Walls and Nestle.”

Bobby’s Ice Snapper has been a favourite for more than 25 years although many customers may not be aware of the brand name, referring to it simply as an ice pop, Suckling noted.

“The Ice Snapper has been a favourite for many years and typically we sell around 5m units annually. This year sales have been much stronger than usual and we are expecting to sell more than 7m Ice Snappers,” he said.

“We are putting the increase down to the hot weather and to our customers’ desire for a simple ice treat that will help them cool down without filling them up or spoiling their appetites.”

Bobby’s Ice Snapper comes in a 90ml pack and contains 41 calories. They are sold through a network of independent retailers across Britain.
