Nisa has announced the appointment of Katie Secretan as director of sales and retail, to help drive and implement its long-term business plans.

Joining from her most recent role as retail transformation director at the Post Office, Secretan will be responsible for setting the strategic direction to deliver against its 2030-year business plan, whilst being accountable for growth objectives, through recruitment and retention across its retail and wholesale partners.


She has a wealth of leadership and retail business development experience, holding multiple roles in franchise, retail operations and transformation at the Post Office. Secretan developed and delivered a two-year franchise business plan whist at Post Office, creating a new business unit and operating model, delivering strong commercial growth and robust partnerships.

Prior to this, she was director of retail franchise and corporate partnerships at Costa Coffee, as well as a number of commercial and operational roles at both Capita and Telefonica O2 UK.

Peter Batt, managing director of Nisa, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Katie to the team and I’m excited for the integral role she’ll play in delivering on our ambitions to be the wholesale partner of choice. Our retailers are at the heart of the decisions we make, and the experience Katie will bring, along with the work she’ll be leading, are going to be instrumental in how we deliver our long-term ambitions.”

Katie Secretan said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Peter and the team and look forward to meeting the network of Nisa Retailers who make today’s business so successful. My priority will be to lead the commercial strategy and deliver on the ambitious growth plans, with the support of the wider Co-op Group, this will be a very exciting time for the wholesale retail market”.

Secretan will start in her new role mid-January 2024.

Safer alternatives to cigarettes could save millions of lives and billions of pounds, says think tank

Promoting safer alternatives to cigarettes could save 19 million years of life by 2030 and reduce smoking-related costs to taxpayers by up to £12.6 billion annually, a new report from the Adam Smith Institute (ASI) has revealed.

The think tank argues that the UK government's current approach to achieving a Smoke Free 2030 - defined as reducing smoking rates to 5 per cent or lower - is both illiberal and unworkable and will significantly set back progress against smoking related harm. The ASI warns that policies such as a generational tobacco ban, a new tax on vapes, and restrictions on heated tobacco products and flavours will hinder harm reduction efforts.
