Kingsland Drinks brings premium South African wines to UK retail

Kingsland Drinks has signed an exclusive deal with Boland Cellar winery in South Africa to bring its premium South African wines to the UK off trade.

As one of the largest suppliers of wine to UK supermarkets and retailers, the partnership strengthens Kingsland’s extensive bottled at source business to include South Africa.

Kingsland Drinks will work with Boland Cellar to bring its branded bottled-at-source ranges to the UK retail, making them available to off trade buyers and retail managers looking to strengthen their South African wine offering, especially in the mid-premium tiers.

Producing both bottled-at-source and bottled-in-market wines, Boland Cellar - which is based in Northern Paarl - is a large-scale, award-winning winery with a rich history, robust capabilities and a collaborative approach to winemaking. It operates over 1,900 hectares with its partner producers. Sustainability is at the core of Boland Cellar's ethos, from environmental custodianship to ethical trade practices and supporting livelihoods in rural communities.

Located to the north of Stellenbosch, the Paarl wine region is the home of some of the Western Cape’s most notable wineries. With its varied terroir, the region produces a rich diversity of wines made with different grape varieties and blends but with distinctive character.

“South Africa offers wines of wonderful, consistent quality and incredible value for money - both of which are key for consumers at the point of purchase in the wine aisle,” Andy Hoyle, buyer at Kingsland Drinks, said.

“This partnership means that Kingsland Drinks can offer a wide range of wines, styles and price points to UK retailers looking to bolster their South African wine ranges in store, with a product to fit every requirement - including exclusivity if a retailer wishes to take a wine or range from another Boland Cellar offering.”

Available to UK retailers, the ranges include the mid-tier Classic Selection which covers most South African varietals, sustainable brand Melita, which supports reforestation in South Africa, Boland’s flagship One Formation range which includes three multi-award-winning wines, the new A Hint Of range which focuses on customer interaction with the bottle and the most premium Reserve range which has recently been rebranded with beautifully emotive packaging and storytelling to highlight Boland Cellar's vast conservation efforts, which have earned the winery an industry-leading WWF Conservation Champion accreditation.
