Leverhulme Trust higher education £3k bursary schemes for convenience families - dates

The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust (LTCT), which provides financial aid for the families of those working in the convenience, grocery, and pharmacy trades, has announced applications for 2024/2025 undergraduate bursaries will open on 1 August and run until 15 October.

Through the charity’s bursary scheme, university students whose parent or carer is employed in an eligible profession, such as convenience retailer, supermarket store worker, or pharmacy technician, can apply to receive up to £3,000. The bursary can be put towards tuition fees, or other expenses such as course materials, equipment or travel costs.

As the cost of attending university mounts year on year, the bursary has been designed to help families who may be concerned about supporting a child through higher education. With the charity’s core belief that everyone should have the opportunity to reach their academic potential, LTCT hopes that it will help alleviate some of the financial pressure on students and their parents.

In 2024, the total number of bursaries awarded since the scheme launched is expected to exceed 5,000, totalling £28million worth of financial aid.

“At LTCT we’re gearing up for one of the busiest and most rewarding periods in the calendar," said Professor Anna Vignoles CBE FBA, Director at The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust. "Our undergraduate bursaries see a high volume of applications year on year and with every approval we delight in knowing we’ve helped a student get a little closer to their academic goals.

“We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to continue their educational journey, and we hope our bursaries can help lighten the financial burden. We therefore encourage anyone in the grocery or pharmacy trade who may be eligible to apply – it could well lead to someone in your family taking the next step in their education. Make sure the 1st of August is in the diary!”

Alongside the undergraduate bursary, a postgraduate scheme is currently open for those keen to return to university, closing on 1 September 2024.
