Loch Lomond Group introduces new single grain Scotch whisky, Spearhead

Loch Lomond Group has announced the launch of its new single grain Scotch whisky: Spearhead.

Crafted at Loch Lomond’s distillery in Alexandria, the whisky is bold and sweeter in style, similar to a Bourbon. It is distilled using a continuous Coffey style still, allowing for a lighter spirit to be created, and then aged in ex-bourbon barrels before finishing in a combination of fire and infrared-toasted virgin American oak barrels.

“We have been working very hard to create an innovative new Scotch Whisky and we are pleased to finally launch Spearhead to market,” said Calum Leslie, Head of Innovation at Loch Lomond Group.

“While this style of whisky is very popular in the Irish and American markets, there isn’t anything comparable in the Scotch sector. Spearhead is one of a kind, championing the single grain, something we know will resonate a lot with people.”

Loch Lomond Group have also appointed premium spirits distributer Mangrove UK to manage the distribution of Spearhead in the UK. The group, which previously managed all their distribution in-house, said the move will further their options for on and off-trade deals in key markets within the UK. Initially the focus will be the on-trade and independent retailers.

Nick Gillett, managing director at Mangrove UK, said: “To say that we are excited to start a partnership with LLG would be an understatement, they have a rich heritage of distilling and have been going from strength-to-strength in recent years. We look forward to building on their distribution and working alongside their team to bring to life this hugely disruptive and exciting brand.”

Displayed in a striking Bourbon-style bottle, Spearhead will be available globally from summer 2021 (ABV: 43%, RRP: £30).

Gnaw ‘new-stalgia’: pud-themed Chocolate Spoons and flavoured choc bars

Tapping into “new-stalgia” (an anticipated hot food trend in 2025), Gnaw has been working tirelessly to rethink Great British puddings by creating a number of “Hug in a Mug” classics (Crème Brulée, Bakewell Tart, Sticky Toffee Pud) in conjunction with an impressive “pudfolio” of dessert-flavoured bars: New York Cheesecake, Christmas Pudding, Banoffee Pie and Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Desserts may prove divisive. For many the last course will always be a fitting finale to a great meal spent with friends of family, enticing comfort food that offers a nostalgic peek into happy custard drenched, ice cream topped memories from yesteryear. For others, desserts are an unwitting dalliance with guilt-filled soft sponges, buttery pastry, seductively sweet fillings, crumbly toppings, sticky sauces …
