An Eston man has been charged with alleged armed robberies on convenience stores on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.

According to local reports, Andrew Honor did not enter a plea when he appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Thursday (5) charged with the two offences. It is alleged that the 44-year-old targeted Jays News Convenience Store, in Birchington Avenue, Whale Hill in Middlesbrough on Christmas Day.

He is also charged with armed robbery in connection with an incident at the Premier Shop, in Burns Road, in South Bank on New Year's Eve. Honor, of Hutton Road, Eston, is now set to appear at Teesside Crown Court next month.

The defendant did not enter a plea during the short hearing. He will next appear at crown court on February 2.

Cleveland Police has confirmed that another man has been charged in connection with a separate incident at Jays News Convenience Store days later on December 29.

A 41-year-old man has been charged with armed robbery and will appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Friday January 27.
