Markowski leaves; Budweiser Brewing Group appoints Sunny Mirpuri

Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I, part of AB InBev, has today announced the appointment of Sunny Mirpuri as Sales Director for Convenience and Wholesale. His new role will come into effect on 6 September.

Sunny joined Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I in 2008 and has held a variety of senior roles across the Off-Trade sales, finance and category management teams. His most recent position was as a Commercial Director, where he oversaw several of the business’s key grocery accounts.

In his new role Sunny will be focused on delivering continued growth and distribution across the brewer’s portfolio in the convenience and wholesale channel, increasing the presence of Budweiser Brewing Group’s portfolio of beers, including Budweiser, Stella Artois and Corona.

The Sales Director for Wholesale & Convenience role was previously held by Jessica Markowski. Since taking up the position in 2019, Markowski was instrumental in shoring up supply, and accelerating the digital transformation within the Convenience and Wholesale channel. Jessica has made the decision to move onto new opportunities outside of the business.

“My father owned and ran a wholesale company, so I have first-hand experience of how important convenience and wholesale stores are within local communities,” says Sunny Mirpuri, Sales Director – Convenience & Wholesale, Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I. “I’m excited to step up to the plate and expand on the strong foundations Jessica has built during her tenure. Listening closely to customers and understanding their needs will be a key focus of mine as stores continue to adapt to post-pandemic conditions and beyond.”

Mark Wingfield-Digby, Off-Trade Sales Director, Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I says: “Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to Jessica. She leaves behind an incredible legacy, and we are so grateful for the strong team she’s put in place, as well as the transformation she’s led in our business.”

“We are delighted to be promoting Sunny to the role of Sales Director for Convenience and Wholesale. Having worked in the business for over 10 years, he has a strong understanding of both our needs and the needs of our customers. His experience will be vital in driving continued growth in the convenience and wholesale channel, and supporting our customers as they navigate the challenges of the post-pandemic landscape.”

Although the UK's overall recycling rate has seen a significant rise, reaching 44 per cent in 2015 compared to just 17 per cent in 2008, progress has plateaued in recent years, with indications that the rate may now be declining.

Safer alternatives to cigarettes could save millions of lives and billions of pounds, says think tank

Promoting safer alternatives to cigarettes could save 19 million years of life by 2030 and reduce smoking-related costs to taxpayers by up to £12.6 billion annually, a new report from the Adam Smith Institute (ASI) has revealed.

The think tank argues that the UK government's current approach to achieving a Smoke Free 2030 - defined as reducing smoking rates to 5 per cent or lower - is both illiberal and unworkable and will significantly set back progress against smoking related harm. The ASI warns that policies such as a generational tobacco ban, a new tax on vapes, and restrictions on heated tobacco products and flavours will hinder harm reduction efforts.
