Mexican tequila brand El Tequileño arrives in UK

Leading tequila brand El Tequileño is set to launch in the UK following a distribution partnership with Ten Locks, a recently launched premium drinks company.

Two expressions, Blanco and Reposado, will be available to retailers in early 2021, with remaining SKUs in the range - Platinum, Reposado Gran Reserva, Añejo Gran Reserva and the world’s first and only Reposado Rare - are expected to land later in the year.

“Our talks with drinks buyers revealed real appetite for the El Tequileño brand – especially the Reposado Rare,” commented Becky Davies, head of commercial at Ten Locks.

“We’re proud to be the first to bring it to the UK and see real promise for the brand as it taps into increasing consumer appetite for tequila, and means discerning drinkers can add a bottle to their basket on their grocery shop.”

Produced in the distillery located in the heart of old town of Tequila, Mexico, El Tequileño was named to honour the people of the town. Founded in 1959, the brand has a reputation for creating exquisite tequilas using sustainable practices.

“We promised to back brands that present innovation in the drinks industry while striving for positive change. In El Tequileño we have the perfect partner; it has its own 60-year-old distillery, employs traditional, sustainable production techniques, and offers a fantastic spectrum of flavours to really showcase how good tequila can be,” Davies added.

Launched in August, the Manchester-based Ten Locks is a sister company to independent spirits business Kingsland Drinks.

It unveiled first brands in its portfolio - Nusa Cana Rum, West Cork Irish Whiskey and applewood Gin - in September and followed with the addition two spiced rum brands, the Salford Rum Company and Diablesse Rum, last month.

ElTequileño Blanco and Reposado tequilas retail at £22 and £24 respectively.
