New Carr’s caramelised red onion flavour melts from pladis

New Carr’s caramelised red onion flavour melts from pladis

Global snacking company pladis is solidifying its presence on the cheese board by introducing a new Caramelised Red Onion flavour to its growing Carr’s Melts range.

With a chutney-inspired flavour baked in, the new launch sees these iconic crisp wheaten biscuits – which have a light and mouth-watering texture – infused with the sweet and smoky flavour of caramelised red onion. Perfect on their own or topped with a richly mature cheddar, the flavoursome addition is positioned to appeal to shoppers looking for a deliciously indulgent treat at dinner parties, evenings in, or summer picnics in the park with friends and family.

Carr’s Melts is already a top choice for savoury snackers, with sales worth £9.3M. But pladis has spotted a golden opportunity for retailers to drive incremental growth with Carr’s Melts Caramelised Red Onion, which is a particularly popular flavour amongst younger, affluent family shoppers who are willing to trade up for something extra special.

"We're seeing consistently high demand for top-quality and top-tasting savoury snacks, especially with more people spending time at home and valuing togetherness," says Aslı Askman – Marketing Director at pladis UK&I. "Our Carr’s Melts flavour range has quickly become a firm favourite for shoppers looking to add a touch of indulgence to their snacks, particularly in the evening.

“With this latest flavour, we wanted to capture the essence of a classic cheese board favourite while offering shoppers a snack that can be enjoyed across lots of different occasions. Currently bought by almost 1.4M households in the UK, caramelised onion is already a popular flavour when it comes to savoury biscuits . So, it was a natural next step for us to put our own Carr’s Melts spin on it.

“Our experience is that Carr’s Melts flavour innovations bring new shoppers to an already growing category. That's why we're thrilled about this latest addition to our range and why we're confident it will be a hit with our loyal fans, plus anyone looking to elevate their snacking experiences – whether straight from the pack or paired with favourite toppings.

This snackable wheaten biscuit joins the Melts range alongside Original and Cheese.

Carr’s Caramelised Red Onion Flavour Melts will soon be rolling out across convenience nationwide in 150g boxes (RRP: £1.99).

Pernod Ricard UK ignites festive spirit with marketing push

Pernod Ricard UK ignites festive spirit with marketing push

As December rapidly approaches, Pernod Ricard UK is ramping up its festive marketing efforts, anticipating a resurgence in consumer confidence after a challenging year. The UK’s second-largest wine and spirits supplier is set to inspire consumers to choose Premium+ Spirits as the perfect gift or the ultimate addition to any home celebration. Throughout 2024, Premium+ Spirits have consistently outperformed Standard offerings, making this higher end of the sector a vital margin driver.

“Since last Christmas, consumer confidence has been on the rise and the outlook for the final month of 2024 is positive," said Chris Shead, Off-Trade Channel Director for Pernod Ricard UK. "Gifting and hosting remain two key trends and retailers should focus on increasing space in-store for Premium Spirits that act as the perfect gift or cocktail ingredient when wanting to show off in front of friends and family. Where possible, we encourage retailers to prioritise categories that have been capturing the hearts of consumers and this year, our big winners have been Altos Tequila, Kahlúa and Bumbu Rum, and we expect our Champagnes, G.H. Mumm and Perrier-Jouët, to be the toast of choice for festive parties this year.”
