Nisa retailers investing in better value product ranges following London openings

Nisa retailers investing in better value product ranges following London openings

Two new convenience stores have been unveiled in Wembley and Charlton, both offering shoppers an extensive range of cost-effective products.

Launched in January, following a full refurbishment, the 4,000 sq ft Nisa Local in Wembley, which was previously a Bugdens, is the latest store from independent retailer Shah Purvin.

The well-established retailer with eight years of experience in convenience runs several other stores across the UK. The store is in a prime location and sees good footfall, averaging 700 customer visits each day and up to 5,000 customers per week.

Keen to offer new merchandising choices and cater towards changing shopping habits seen by customers, Shah decided to invest in better value products for shoppers.

Shah said: “I am monitoring the sales and we have seen an increase from the Co-op own label lines. The products provide better market value compared with other brands, with good quality products on offer.”

Halil Kurban of Nisa Local in Charlton in London opened with the support of Nisa’s store development team who provided assistance with merchandising and store layout decisions.

The 1,611 sq ft. store located in a New Residential Build complex, with a retail space less than 2 miles away from the o2 arena and a short walk from Greenwich Shopping Park. The store sees high levels of footfall because of its position.

When asked why he decided to choose Nisa’s fascia, Halil said: “I chose Nisa for the brand name. I didn’t want to have to go to a wholesaler to get my merchandise. I liked the fact that I could just pay a surcharge and get the products delivered straight to the store.”

The store offers customers the convenient choice of product without having to go to the Major brand, including a great offering of Co-op own brand range across all departments, with Freal, Bake & Bite and a food-to-go offer.

“The Co-op own label has also been selling really well, it is a much cheaper option for our customers and all the products have been achieving high sales,” Halil added.

Ajmeet Dang, Retail Development Manager at Nisa, said: “Both stores are located in prime locations and offer a variety of value products ranges, which generates footfall. The remerchandising of both stores was important to fit with current shopper habits as consumer behaviour has shifted towards value. That is why both these retailers were interested in stocking Co-op own label products which, since being introduced, have already led to an increase in sales for both retailers.”

Interest rate cut: Bira warns of troubles still ahead

Bira (British Independent Retailers Association), which represents over 6,000 independent retail businesses across the UK, has warned that they face troubled times ahead despite today's Bank of England interest rate cut to 4.5 per cent, as the Bank halves its growth forecast for 2025 to just 0.75 per cent.

"The reduction in interest rates was expected and is welcome news for the retail sector," said Bira CEO Andrew Goodacre. "We have consistently maintained that rates have unnecessarily remained high for longer than required, and we anticipate this reduction will help boost consumer confidence."

Pernod Ricard lowers FY25 outlook amid global tariff threats

Tariffs imposed by China and the United States could deal an estimated €200 million (£167m) blow to Pernod Ricard's business annually, finance chief Helene de Tissot said on Thursday.

China has already imposed temporary tariffs on European brandy imports, hurting Pernod's sales of its Martell cognac brand. The impact of tariffs, which could become permanent, forced Pernod to cut its outlook for 2025 and beyond on Thursday.
