Payzone secures partnership with National Express Coach

Payzone has announced a long-term contract with National Express Coach to provide coach ticketing services to customers of Payzone’s stores across the UK.

Alongside a significant commission structure, Payzone said its retailers are expected to benefit from the uptick in footfall and basket spend as new and existing customers come in-store to purchase coach tickets.

National Express is the largest operator of scheduled coach services in the UK, providing over 21m journeys in 2019. Customers who want to purchase a ticket using cash will be able to do so at selected Payzone stores or Post Office branches.

Payzone said the contract win marks another milestone for the combined strength of the Post Office and Payzone networks, following the success of tie-ups with British Gas, ScottishPower Smart Metering and Jersey Electricity.

“The National Express brand is well known across the UK, so we are thrilled to be partnering with them and expanding their offer into the Payzone estate,” Simon Lambert, Commercial Director for Payzone Bill Payments Limited, said.

“This partnership will now see a UK wide service operating through our combined Payzone and Post Office network. National Express will complement our existing transport ticketing portfolio and will support footfall and basket spend for Payzone retailers at a pivotal time in the UK’s roadmap out of lockdown.”

John Boughton, Commercial Director at National Express UK Coach said: “Joining forces with Payzone provides our customers with even more choice by allowing them to purchase tickets at a time and location convenient to them. We look forward to a mutually beneficial and successful partnership."

Household spending on take-home groceries hit a record high this Christmas at £460 on average, according to the latest data from Kantar. Overall take-home sales at the grocers rose by 2.1 per cent over the four weeks to 29 December compared with last year.

Fraser McKevitt, head of retail and consumer insight at Kantar, says, “It was a solid Christmas at the supermarkets with sales surpassing £13 billion during the four weeks of December for the first time ever, showing people were clearly in the mood to celebrate and spend.

"However, despite the festive cheer, grocery price inflation has ticked up to 3.7 per cent, its highest level since March 2024.

“In contrast to reports of disappointing footfall across the rest of the high street, it was a very different story in the world of grocery. The average household made nearly 17 separate shopping trips this December, delivering the busiest month for the retailers since the pre-lockdown rush in March 2020.
