FMCG wholesaler Pricecheck has reported a record-breaking end to financial year, reaching £151 million turnover with considerable growth.

The wholesaler announced on social media today (14), "The past 12 months have been very busy at Pricecheck, and we’re delighted to have ended 2023-24 stronger than ever. We have achieved record-breaking revenue for the year, quarter and month, with 15 per cent growth compared to the previous year. "

"With a focus on improving efficiencies, innovation and people development – let’s see what we can accomplish in the year ahead!"

The business’ core offering of delivered wholesale remains the biggest contributor to turnover but the launch of new supplier partnerships and rise in digital sales helped the company grow for the 10th consecutive year.

Debbie Harrison OBE, joint managing director, stated last week, "So proud of team Pricecheck after a record-breaking end to our financial year, reaching £151m turnover (15 per cent up on last year!!)

"April alone was our biggest month EVER, with £17.2m invoiced. Incredible when you consider that when Mark and I took over the business in 2007, our annual turnover was only £16.9m.

"Thank you to all the team for your hard work – teamwork really does make the dream work. I also want to say a massive thank you to all our customers and suppliers for your ongoing support. An extra special shout out to our first ever £10m customer!"

Pricecheck is a reputed brand wholesaler and distributor of fast-moving consumer goods. It began as a local retail business, before the Lythe family expanded it into a health and beauty wholesale operation. Over the past more than 40 years, the wholesaler has innovated, diversified, and evolved to become a company that services global retailers and customers, and have built partnerships with leading brands across the UK and worldwide.

Pricecheck is reportedly aiming to increase turnover to £200m.

Earlier this month, Pricecheck shared its ongoing commitment to embrace sustainability initiatives.

The company stated on May 1, "We’ve taken proactive steps to improve the efficiency of our operations. This includes improvements to our buildings, processes and equipment – from switching to automated LED lighting and electric forklift trucks to 30% recycled shrink wrap. We’re also working in collaboration with hauliers to explore greener logistic solutions, transport systems, and networks."

"Our admin team avoid booking haulage that doesn't constitute a full load, arranging multiple orders to be delivered simultaneously depending on geographical location. This initiative has been well received by customers and hauliers and is having a positive impact on travel routes, costs, and environmental impact. By reducing our carbon footprint in transportation, we aim to contribute to the broader industry goal of sustainable logistics."

Allan Leighton returns to Asda to lead revival plan

Supermarket Asda has hired its former Chief Executive Allan Leighton as its new Chairman to support efforts to revive the business after a difficult few years.

Leighton, 71, will replace another retail veteran, Lord Stuart Rose, who has held the role since 2021. Lord Rose was recently tasked with kickstarting Asda’s turnaround strategy after co-owner Mohsin Issa stepped down from running the business in September. Reports said he was heavily involved in efforts to appoint Leighton and will leave the business once the new Chairman is settled into the role.
