Sheffield-based wholesaler and brand distributor Pricecheck has officially been declared a great place to work.

Regarded as the gold standard for excellence within the workplace, the Great Place to Work certification is given based on a company’s own employees’ feedback. The certification recognises those employers who create an outstanding employee experience and audits the business in a number of areas, such safety, inclusivity, culture and development opportunities.

Pricecheck Joint Managing Director Debbie Harrison OBE said, “We are so proud that Pricecheck has been named a Great Place to Work. Mark and I have always strived to create a business and culture where people feel engaged, celebrated and motivated to come to work, and this certification reflects our continuous efforts to improve the experience for everyone.

“We simply couldn’t achieve the growth we have done over the past few years without our team, so ensuring they feel we’re a Great Place to Work is paramount to us.”

Lucy Goddard, HR director, added, “The people at Pricecheck are the ones who make it such a great place so gaining greater insight from them on what we’re doing well and how we can continue to improve is invaluable in shaping the future of the business. We know there is always work to be done, but we’re overjoyed to have achieved certification in our first year.

“By building on our strengths and addressing areas for improvement over the next 12 months, we are confident that we will make great strides in creating an even better workplace for everybody.”

Earlier in May, the FMCG wholesaler reported a record-breaking end to financial year, reaching £151 million turnover with considerable growth.

The wholesaler announced stated, “The past 12 months have been very busy at Pricecheck, and we’re delighted to have ended 2023-24 stronger than ever. We have achieved record-breaking revenue for the year, quarter and month, with 15 per cent growth compared to the previous year. “

“With a focus on improving efficiencies, innovation and people development – let’s see what we can accomplish in the year ahead!”

The business’ core offering of delivered wholesale remains the biggest contributor to turnover but the launch of new supplier partnerships and rise in digital sales helped the company grow for the 10th consecutive year.

Pricecheck is a reputed brand wholesaler and distributor of fast-moving consumer goods. It began as a local retail business, before the Lythe family expanded it into a health and beauty wholesale operation. Over the past more than 40 years, the wholesaler has innovated, diversified, and evolved to become a company that services global retailers and customers, and have built partnerships with leading brands across the UK and worldwide.

Pricecheck is reportedly aiming to increase turnover to £200m.

Retail sales take bigger-than-expected hit in October

British retail sales fell by much more than expected in October, according to official data that added to other signs of a loss of momentum in the economy in the run-up to the first budget of prime minister Keir Starmer's new government.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said sales volumes have fallen by 0.7 per cent in October. A Reuters poll of economists had forecast a monthly fall of 0.3 per cent in sales volumes from September.
