SPAR £100k Community Cashback returns

The SPAR Community Cashback is back for the third year in a row.

Due to the amazing success of last year’s event, SPAR is launching its third £100,000 Community Cashback scheme, giving away various grants to local voluntary or community organisations and charities.

After rewarding over 20 different local organisations, and receiving more than 13,000 entries, last year, SPAR is back with the £100k Community Cashback campaign in 2024 and looking to help even more local communities.

Launching on the 11 April, shoppers from all over the UK can apply for a grant for an organisation or charity they feel deserves funding. All applicants need to do is share the exceptional contribution that a local organisation has made to their community and what the grant would be put towards.

Running until 22 May, there are grants available covering all geographical regions across the UK. Amounts up to £10,000 are available, with a total pool of grants valued at £100,000.

SPAR is looking forward to catching up with last year’s grant winners and seeing how their grants have positively affected their communities.

“Empowering local communities is about nurturing our neighbourhoods and promoting a brighter future," said Suzanne Dover, SPAR UK Brand and Marketing Director. "We had such a brilliant response to last year’s campaign that we are delighted to bring it back again this year.

“The SPAR £100k Community Cashback campaign really demonstrates to our shoppers that we care about the charities and organisations in their local communities.

“The SPAR £100k Community Cashback campaign really demonstrates to our shoppers that we care about the charities and organisations in their local communities. Supporting our local communities is part of our heritage, and we are happy to bring this to life for our consumers.”

SPAR invests back into the local communities we serve, looking after our shoppers and helping to build and strengthen our local neighbourhoods.

Dover added: “Our grant scheme is aimed at supporting and giving back to the communities that we serve. Last year grants were awarded to over 20 local organisations across the UK, with some receiving £10,000.

“We've seen first-hand how much last year's grant winners have benefited from this scheme and know that together, we are making a real difference in communities.”

Last year's winners speak

“Stepping Out is delivered free to all participants," said Richard Walsh, from Stepping Out in Dorset. "Without raising money from people like SPAR, Stepping Out wouldn’t be possible. SPAR’s Community Cashback scheme is helping us deliver the programme for this year.”

In Lancashire, Lyndsay Fahey from Rainbow Hub said: “The Community Cashback grant will be used to help us fund the conductive education therapy that we provide for the children, and it will help us to help them become more independent.”

Tess Thomas, from Ty Hapus in Cardiff, added: “When we got news of the Community Cashback grant we were so pleased because we knew that we’d have money there to support our guests over the next two years. It’ll mean that the guests will be able to get out more in the community and it will provide extra respite for families and carers.”

Lisa Davidson, from Fox & Friends in the Scottish Highlands, said: “When I received the grant I was absolutely shocked. I thought I only applied for £1,000 and then I got the email through that I got £10,000, and so it’s just amazing and we’re absolutely delighted.”

And Kerry Anderson, from Air Ambulance NI based in Country Antrim, said: “Our charity and the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service has been in operation for almost six years now. During that time, the medical team have been called out on over 3,500 missions. We’re responsible for raising in and around £2.5 million every single year.”

Consumers value ethics though 'sustainability needs to be competitively priced'

Consumers now want a greater commitment from retailers in cutting food waste, refilling stations, sustainable packaging, and partnering with social purpose organisations, states a recent research, which also highlights that a good majority (69 per cent) of younger consumers are more likely to shop with what they see as socially responsible retailers though price sensitivity still plays a crucial role.

According to the findings, published in Vypr’s Consumer Horizon Report, reducing food waste is the most important factor for the majority of UK consumers (29 per cent), especially for Gen Z women aged 18-24 (38 per cent). More than a third (37 per cent) of men aged 18-24 said they needed food storage advice. A similar number of women aged 18-24 (33 per cent) want meal kits with the exact amount of ingredients included for them to cut down on food waste.
