SPAR Brand launches tasty new sweets

SPAR is launching five new own label lines to its overall confectionery range. Available in participating SPAR stores around the UK from 9 January 2023, these five new lines will sit under the take-home confectionery and impulse categories.

Joining the take-home confectionery category are Giant Strawberries, which are vegan and vegetarian friendly, Yummy Bears and Sour Gummy Mix.

Sour Flames

Following on from the success of Myles the Meerkat, SPAR is announcing a brand-new character called Tilly the Turtle! This line will sit in the impulse confectionery category, along with Sour Flames which are also new.

All five products will be packaged in the new vibrant design. The design takes inspiration from the traditional sweet shop style stripes with a vibrant and bold colour palette.

“These five new products allow SPAR to modernise and add a point of difference to the current own label range," said Hannah Such, SPAR UK Assistant Brand Manager. "We will be filling gaps within our confectionery range by offering new and exciting flavours; this will give our SPAR stores a fantastic opportunity to earn additional sales.

“We are delighted with how well Myles the Meerkat is selling in stores that we felt it was time to add a new character to the range. Tilly the Turtle fruit jellies is perfect for consumers who have an interest in innovative confectionery.”

In total there are thirty-six lines in SPAR own label confectionery – twenty in the take-home category and sixteen in the impulse category. The launch will be supported with in-store POS to drive consumer awareness and sales.

The five new SPAR own label confectionery lines are:

SPAR Tilly the Turtle fruit jellies 60g RSP 59p

SPAR Sour flames 55g RSP 59p

SPAR Giant Strawberries 140g RSP £1.20

Gnaw ‘new-stalgia’: pud-themed Chocolate Spoons and flavoured choc bars

Tapping into “new-stalgia” (an anticipated hot food trend in 2025), Gnaw has been working tirelessly to rethink Great British puddings by creating a number of “Hug in a Mug” classics (Crème Brulée, Bakewell Tart, Sticky Toffee Pud) in conjunction with an impressive “pudfolio” of dessert-flavoured bars: New York Cheesecake, Christmas Pudding, Banoffee Pie and Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Desserts may prove divisive. For many the last course will always be a fitting finale to a great meal spent with friends of family, enticing comfort food that offers a nostalgic peek into happy custard drenched, ice cream topped memories from yesteryear. For others, desserts are an unwitting dalliance with guilt-filled soft sponges, buttery pastry, seductively sweet fillings, crumbly toppings, sticky sauces …
