SPAR brewing up a storm in Stornoway

Stornoway, the main town of the Western Isles and the capital of Lewis and Harris in Scotland, is home to the only SPAR convenience store with forecourt site on the Scottish island in the Outer Hebrides.

SPAR Stornoway is owned and operated by Allan MacDonald and his family for over 16 years. Originally a new build, the SPAR store has recently had an extensive refurbishment and held a launch party on Friday 9th December to celebrate its success with local customers.

The 1,400sqft convenience store on Bayhead Street has been remodelled using the latest SPAR branding with new window vinyls and instore signage. New shelving, chillers, up-right freezers, a Fwip and Calippo Slush have also been added.

The independent convenience retailing family have also built a new kitchen for their food-to-go operation, which is a particularly important part of the stores’ business. In addition, two more Tchibo Coffee machines will be opening in the store to go alongside its already two existing Tchibo Coffee machines. The store offers lottery, a range of news and magazines, off licence, fuel and an ATM. Customers also have a range of excellent quality products to choose from including SPAR’s award-winning own label range.

On the launch day, customers were invited to enter a free prize draw to win two x £50 SPAR vouchers. There were 100 SPAR goody bags available and a main draw for customers to be in with a chance to win a Bush 24” smart HD TV. There were also great promotional offers available on leading food and drink brands.

Allan MacDonald, owner of SPAR Stornoway said: “We are delighted with our new look store which has been a major investment for our company and marks a complete upgrade to our store and kitchen which opened in 2006. We hope that our valued customers new and old will appreciate the range of products on offer, the new shop environment, and our friendly staff service. We would like to thank the SPAR Scotland team for their help with the planning and advice throughout the upgrade.”

Brian Straiton, CJ Lang & Son Independent Sales Director, added: “We are delighted Allan and his family have made this investment into his SPAR store. Our focus remains on providing SPAR Stornoway with the best service and product availability. It’s our only store on the Isle of Lewis and Harris and we are enormously proud to support them in their mission to offer local residents a broad range of products with great value and choice.

“The growth of our independent retailer network is a key ingredient in the success of SPAR Scotland and this refurbishment supports our commitment to growing the business for the long term.”

SPAR Stornoway/Manor filling station is situated on 64-70 Bayhead Street, Stornoway HS1 2DZ. Opening hours are 7am-11pm, Monday to Saturday.
