A man robbed a convenience store in Wallasey, Wirral, threatening a staff member with a suspected handgun.

The incident occurred at around 7.40pm on Tuesday (19 December) at The Local store, on Leasowe Road.

The offender left the store on foot with a quantity of cash. No one was injured, but the staff member was left shaken by the incident, Merseyside Police said, as they appealed for information to help with the investigation.

“We are appealing for anyone with information about this incident to please come forward as a matter of urgency,” Detective Inspector Andrew Schofield said.

“I understand that the community will be rightly concerned by this incident, but please be reassured that we are taking this extremely seriously and we are determined to find the person responsible.

“To threaten an innocent staff member in this manner is shocking. No-one should be subjected to this level of fear and intimidation while they try to earn an honest living.

“This shop is located on a busy road, so we are hoping that motorists who were driving in the Leasowe Road area at around the time of the incident may have captured something significant on dashcam footage.

“Similarly, if you live in the area please review your CCTV footage or if you have any information whatsoever, please let us know.

“Whether you come forward to us directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers, all information will be acted upon.”

If you have any information, please message ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or call 101 with reference 23001294040. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or via their online form.
