Sugro UK expands with new members

Member-owned buying and marketing group Sugro UK, comprising of over 90 independent wholesalers, has recently added new members.

Sugro UK today (30) welcomed Prime Cash & Carry, a wholesaler based in Leyton, London with over 20 years of experience in retail focused on FMCG and home essentials. The wholesaler has a wide selection of products, including fresh produce, meat, dairy, and bakery items and claims to offer the "lowest prices in town".


Other wholesalers to have joined Sugro UK are Parker Hampton Food Group and DKS Traders Ltd.

Parker Hampton Food Group Ltd is a family–run wholesaler based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. It offers delivery services to its customer base which primarily consists of independent retailers and symbol retailers throughout Cambridgeshire, North-East and South Yorkshire.

Established in 2021, the delivered wholesaler provides an extensive range of impulse products, including confectionery, crisps and snacks, soft drinks as well as grocery and alcohol lines. Following 2023, the group acquired 10 convenience stores from Duncan Turner Ltd, to further expand their customer base.

On the other hand, Essex-based DKS Traders has been trading since 2015. With an extensive customer base ranging from local convenience stores, discount stores, online retailers as well as smaller cash & carries, DKS Traders supply a wide range of confectionery, soft drinks, grocery lines and household non-food items.

Earlier this month, Sugro UK has added Welsh soft drinks wholesaler Preplica to its membership. Based in Caerphilly, Preplica has been trading since March 2021 and has developed rapidly on online platforms including with e-commerce on TikTok and Amazon. Preplica is now TikTok UK’s number one food and drink seller with over 40,000 orders per month.

1,100 unsafe soft drinks seized in Southend safety crackdown

Southend-on-Sea City Council officials have secured food condemnation orders from Chelmsford Magistrates Court, resulting in the seizure and destruction of 1,100 unauthorised soft drinks.

The condemned drinks, including Mountain Dew, 7-UP, Mirinda, and G Fuel energy drinks, were found during routine inspections of food businesses across Southend by the council’s environmental health officers.

Retail sales disappoint before Christmas
