Crisis seems to have passed for Walkers crisps after reports emerged on Friday (29) claiming its supplies being disrupted by an IT upgrade.

The Leicester-based crisp giant confirmed products including multipacks of ready salted, Quavers and Wotsits had been affected, BBC reported, amid reports of Walkers crisp packets a rare sight on shelves.

A few Twitter handles, meanwhile, have claimed that supply is back.

Walkers, part of the global PepsiCo group, confirmed that its factory in Beaumont Leys, Leicester, which employs around 1,300 people, was currently producing limited quantities of crisps and snacks.

A spokeswoman said the firm was "working round the clock" to increase the supply to stores across the UK.

She added: "We are currently experiencing disruption to the supply of some of our Walkers snacks products, as a result of a recent IT system upgrade.

"We're very sorry for the inconvenience. We're incredibly grateful to all our colleagues in Leicester and our other sites for their hard work and dedication as we work through this issue."

It is understood technical issues following a big IT upgrade have been affecting production for several weeks, while reports suggest rivals such as KP have seen big increases in demand for alternative products.

Social media was also abuzz with many netizens pointing out the unavailability of Walkers crisps.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves' budget's impact will be felt unevenly across the UK’s 50,000 convenience stores, with some measures such as business rate relief and the increased employment allowance mitigating costs for smaller independent stores, while providing no help for chains and larger independent businesses.

From April 2025, the NLW will increase from £11.44 to £12.21 while 18-20 National Minimum Wage will rise by £1.40 per hour to £10 - the largest increase on record, marking the first step towards a single adult rate.
