Whole Earth makes its jars 100% plastic-free

Leading peanut butter brand Whole Earth said it has replaced the traditional plastic tamper seal around the lid with a new paper version.

The move makes the jars 100% plastic free. The brand sells around 9.5 million jars a year.

The new paper lollypop design has the same function of the plastic seal which is used as a tamper deterrent to maximise product shelf life, the brand said.

“Removing unnecessary plastic from our packaging is a big priority for us,” said Bryan Martins, marketing & category director at brand owner Wessanen UK.

“By eliminating the small bit of single-use plastic on Whole Earth’s jars, we can minimise plastic pollution and make our jars even more environmentally friendly.”

The healthy food brand, a certified B Corp along with parent Wessanen UK, uses only fully sustainable, natural ingredients. The glass jar and aluminium lid are also suitable for home recycling.
